· Barbara Slade – President 6/10/2015 – 6/10/2020
Was President of the Carson Valley Trails Assn. for 4 yrs. and on their board for 7 yrs. My equestrian experience expands over a period of 50 years, 38 of which were as a professional horseman. It was common, during the early years of my “horsin’ around” to learn numerous equine disciplines from a variety of trainers and I gained an extensive education regarding all aspects of owning and caring for horses, learning to be an equine instructor and trainer.
My career encompassed a great deal of giving instruction and training for both horses and humans. Currently I have been teaching and working with children and adults for close to 40 years. I was on the Board of Advisors for the state of NJ’s 4-H program. I was a horse judging coach and judged at many competitions, as well as competing at the upper levels in the discipline of Hunter/Jumpers. I managed horse shows and show horse facilities. I even had the incredible opportunity to ride races as a jockey of thoroughbred race horses for almost 5 years.
· Stephanie Scheick – Secretary 8/7/2015 – 8/7/2020
My passion for horses started at a young age, from my first riding lesson, I was hooked. Growing up and working with horses gave me the opportunity to learn as much about myself as I learned about horses. I have over fifteen years of secretarial and administrative experience as well as a background in education. It is my hope that the students of Between Horses and Humans experience the joy and reward of working with horses!
• Tracy Gross – Treasurer 3/26/2015 – 3/26/2020
I graduated from Sam Houston State University, in Texas, with a Bachelor of Business Administration. I have worked in the Accounting field for more than 30 years. I have a great love for children and a passion for helping to create change in their lives. Since moving to Nevada, I have spent several years in Douglas County, substitute teaching in the middle schools and high school, volunteering with the Community Partnership-STOP Program, and volunteering with Carson Valley Middle School-Making a Difference-Showing Acts of Kindness. Our family has experienced the challenges of a child with High Functioning Autism. Looking for resources in the community to help, I found Barbara Slade. Barbara introduced me to Between Horses and Humans and showed me the power of the relationship between a horse and a child. For the past two years, I have volunteered my time to support Between Horses and Humans to bring hope, confidence, and leadership skills to children in our community.

One of my favorite horse experiences is starting two colts with Pat Parelli when he was in Clements, CA. Between Horses and Humans has been a part of my life since its inception in 2004. I earned a BA in History, and MA in Counseling and Educational Psychology and have had my MFT license for fourteen years.

A horse lover for forty plus years, I have been around horses since age 10. I showed horses through my youth and have trained and given lessons to both children and adults. I currently own and operate a Pilates studio from my home and use the principles of Pilates and movement in my lessons with the children and the horses.
